Martha Dabney

June 5, 1922 — September 28, 2022

Martha Dabney (Waugh) also known as “Foxy”, age 100, formerly of Palm Harbor Florida. Passed away September 28, 2022, in Hendersonville, TN where she lived with her daughter and son in law.  Martha was born June 5, 1922, to Alice and Bert Waugh. Married to James Arthur Dabney for 50 years residing in New York, Ohio, and retiring in Florida. She was a member of North Bay Community Church in Clearwater.

Martha was well loved for her sense of humor, endless energy, and generosity of spirit. She never had a bad word to say and never a cross one. She devoted herself to her family and loved her children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren beyond measure. She never tired, was up before everyone else and in bed after everyone else to make sure they had no needs. Her free time was spent gardening in a yard that she continued to make gorgeous, playing bridge and 65, and traveling. Her golf game continued until she was 95 years old. She volunteered at her church into the late years of her life even though she had to take an uber or arrange transportation to get there.  She was such a truly amazing example for her grandchildren of how life should be lived.

Martha wanted to make it to 100 years, and her stubborn streak guaranteed that she did that. After that milestone, she started working on her journey to heaven and did so gracefully. Without question, we will all miss her and continually think of many humorous stories and wonderful memories of the times we were fortunate to spend with her.

Martha was predeceased by her parents Alice and Bert Waugh, brother Louis Waugh, sisters Mary Sheumaker, and Katherine Zucker, children Bruce and Bryce Dabney, and devoted husband James A. Dabney. She is survived by her children Cathy Hanson (Tom), Sharry Cook (Ken), Jim Dabney (Tracy). Also surviving are her grandchildren Kristin Hanson (Mike Chiaburu), Lauren Hanson (Sebastian Loh), David Cook (Kristin Yager Cook), Mandy Cook (Mark Kremper), Jackie Dabney, and Jamie Dabney. Great-grandchildren surviving are Lily Chiaburu, Tucker, Wesley, Bryson, and Lilah Cook, Jayce and Jazlyn Dabney , and newest addition Elliott Loh. Also surviving are her special niece Anita Sheumaker Cox (Jim), and nephews Orin Sheumaker (Nancy), Keith Sheumaker (Karen), and Greg Sheumaker (Beth).

Arrangements at a later date.

Donations may be made to North Bay Community Church, Salvation Army or Wounded Warrior charities.
